First concrete details about Star-Lord’s dad revealed by Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is just a month away.

Director James Gunn has shed a bit more light on who the character is and what his powers are. And let’s just say we’ve probably not met anybody like him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fans in the know are already aware that we will be meeting Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) father in the Marvel superhero sequel – but we actually don’t know much about him except he’s meant to be a living planet named Ego and is played by Kurt Russell.

“Ego is a living planet who is able to manifest himself in different ways,” he told Complex.

“I think Ego was a very lonely character out there by himself and went off in search of love, and perhaps found it in Quill’s mother.”

“He’s been alone for millions of years and he’s learned how to control the molecules around him in such a way as to create avatars of themselves, such as Kurt Russell.

I think there will be there will also be a Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3.

Gunn confirmed it in the same interview : “I’m trying to figure out what I want to do, really. That’s all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing.

“You know, I’m going to make another big movie. Is it the Guardians or something else? I’m just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks.”

Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 lands in cinemas on April 28 in the UK – following a week later, on May 5, in the US.
